Hello Ann Arbor Jaycees,

Well, we’ve managed to get through one of our busiest times of year! I want to thank all of you who came out to help with some of our biggest staffing projects; Parade, Rolling Sculpture, Relay for Life and Art Fair Ice Sales. We had great attendance at other projects as well, like the Ethnic Food Nights, Kickball, DTE Business Tour, Book Club, Windsor Trip, Dominic’s
Happy Hour and many others!

In fact we had over 70% of our members attend a project in the last three months! While these are GREAT numbers, I am always concerned about the other 30% of you who didn’t make it out to a project in this period. I hope it’s because you were busy with other things in your life. We’re all busy people, after all. However, if it happens to be because you didn’t see anything that interested you, perhaps that will motivate you to fill out our mid-year survey. It should be up and ready for you to fill out electronically by the time you read this. It will be up until August 8th and it will cover projects from September of this year through March of next year. Please let us know what you want to do. It’s the only way we’ll know! Speaking of participation, look ahead to upcoming projects on the calendar and see if there’s a project you’d like to help out with. My biggest disappointment this year has been my inability to find a way to bring us the Summer Carnival this year. Your Board of Directors and I worked very hard to find a time and location that would work after the initial date was cancelled by our carnival company, Wade Shows, Inc. We just could not find an alternate combination of time and location that would work. This leaves a pretty big hole in our budget this year as the Carnival accounts for about 60% of our budget. Fortunately, past Boards foresaw this possibility and established an emergency fund that will get us through this difficulty. That, together with some belt tightening, will get us through the year in OK shape. Next years Carnival should go off without a hitch, whether with Wade Shows or
without them.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Tigers Game, Camping Trip, Fantasy Football and German Park night as we head into Fall (already!). Where does the time go?!?!
